We’re the Hales!

I’m Emily and I’m the crazy one behind all these projects! I guess I’ve never been afraid to try new things so I don’t look back and regret not trying something that I wish I would’ve given a go, so I’m always dreaming up our next adventure!

I would consider myself a wearer of many hats: Wife, Mom, DIYer, Church leader, Watercolor artist, Singer, Thrifter, Cosmetologist, previous Boutique owner, aaaand I could probably think of a few more but that’s good for now!

Dallin is the one putting up with all my dangerous new ideas that immediately turn into trouble haha He had never cut wood before we moved into our home and built a complete staircase railing after being in our home only a few months! He’s become a fantastic DIYer and we’ve been having the time of our lives renovating our first home in St. George, UT!

Our children Cove and Jones are the biggest joy of our lives and are often keeping things interesting when we try to do projects a.k.a. making them take three times harder haha One of my most asked questions is how I get things done with two littles and to be honest I don’t always know…I have to get creative so I can stay sane! We know there will be so many memories for them growing up helping Mom and Dad with all of the projects and learning things along the way!

The only one left to introduce is our pup, Mayla, a mini Aussie who is often in the background of all our pictures because she can’t help but be in the middle of everything and we love her!

So that’s us! We have kind of just taught ourselves how to do all of these projects and every time I take on a project I’m usually nervous even though I’ll have a clear picture in my head of how I want it to turn out it can be super intimidating! The biggest accomplishment for me has been to gain confidence and dive into the things that scare me because I feel so proud of myself after!

We’re just a little family trying to make our house a home and gaining skills and memories along the way!

Thanks for being here, friend!

FAQs

  • This ol’ pioneer has some old and some “new” life to it! The downstairs was built in 1880’s but we were told it was 1940’s but that’s because it was as far as the records were kept back then. It wasn’t until we learned more about our neighborhood’s history that we found out our house was one of the first to be built in this area and used to be a grainery!

The upstairs was added on in the 70’s and has a totally different vide going on! I hope to keep the character of downstairs and tie it in upstairs!

  • I have really loved having a yard and find it so satisfying being outside working while the kids play! Our playground has probably been one of our favorites that we would hop out of bed and get right to work on!

The kitchen has been the biggest and bestest indoor project but it was a long exhausting journey to get there. Now we can truly enjoy it!

  • Oh well we literally have a list of neverending projects and ideas! It can get overwhelming because so many projects end up unfinished mostly from lack of time.

However, the biggest things I am looking forward to on the list are: Fun touches for the playground, building our fire pit, installing our greenhouse, wallpapering the guest bedroom, and finishing the stairs!

  • Let me tell ya if you need a good partner-building exercise DIY will test all the limits haha

Dallin and I work really well together and love doing projects. I try to work on what I can during the day and I get Dallin’s help some weeknights and weekends if we have the time.

We definitely have to constantly work on making sure we communicate otherwise things get intense but we’re getting better and have come so far together!
